Art is communication. Art is expression. Art is sharing. Art is the manifestation of dreams and aspirations of an individual, to put something there that is of and through a spirit.
Can you recall the last time you gazed at a painting that so moved you that you had to stop and catch your breath?
Can you recall the last time you read a story that made you laugh out loud? Or cry for real? Or consider a different path of your life?
How about the last time you heard some music that stirred your soul? I am enthralled with pipe organs! And choir music and the blues and kids singing! I sang in church and school choirs for most of my pre-teens through high school, then in my later adult years, I had the true pleasure of being the administrative director for a community chorus that was amazingly talented. I have such rich memories of being at the back of the rehearsal hall and hearing the conductor's vision for a piece come together and simply weeping at the beauty of those 70 voices making a kaleidoscope of sound/color.
I tried my hand at a woodblock once and was amazed that I could create an image from my mind on a piece of paper through sketch, knife and ink pressure. The piece had a life of its own, coming through me.
Dancing with a group of people can generate a connection and coordination through rhythm that elevates the spirit above the body - I've experienced it.
Art is a vital part of our expression of life. Find something that moves you, or that can move others through your inspiration. Your spirit will soar a bit...or more!
